What parents say...

Prezton has done really well and we are very proud of his achievement so thank you all again
Mrs A Laborde
Albie
Albie had been diagnosed with mild dyslexia and his reading age was around 2 years behind!  The standard in private school is often higher, so we were worried about the Entrance Exams.  Soon after he enrolled he started making rapid progress.  The school say he is now Level  5 in literacy and the teacher can see a lot of difference.  His reading age has shot up and the gaps in maths have been filled in and he has caught up amazingly quickly. It has definitely, definitely made a difference and I have recommended the centre to my friends.
Jilly (Albie’s Mum)
Thank you both so much for all the support you have give our Darcey.  she really has grown in her confidence with her maths and you have defo given her the foundations to grow.  She is very excited about starting senior school in September and I am sure we will be back in the future for more support for her or her younger sister.  Big, big hugs.
Heidi & Lee
“I would just like to say I have nothing but praise for I Love to Learn and all the tutors, not only has Dottie already improved with her maths work in the time she has been there but her confidence is so much better too. I want to thank you all so much, she has absolutely loved it, and without a doubt I would not hesitate in bringing her back.” Kayleigh (parent) 2021
Kayleigh Nutbeamparent
Thank you so much for helping me with my maths!  I have come along much more in maths lessons at school! Hopefully, depending on whether I need help when I go to Secondary School I might come back again. (I hope so)  Thank you again. Madison.
Mrs H Breen

She says “I Love to Learn Now!”

Mariana brought her daughter to us as she was having a few problems with maths at school.  She liked it so much that now she comes for English as well!  Mariana says that now “She is more confident with math now and she’s coming to I Love to Learn for pleasure.  She is very happy with her teacher, she says she is very kind and patient.”
Howard JonesI Love to Learn
I was told at school that Harrison had fallen about 2 years behind in reading, writing and spelling. Harrison took to it straight away.  He has made fantastic progress and is meeting all his targets.  He loves the points and prizes that he collects for working so he comes out buzzing after every session!
Mrs S McGee
Thank you very much for your help and support in helping Tomek achieve his goals in English
Monica (Tomek’s mum)
Alex had been tested in Year 4 for dyslexia and he came out mildly dyslexic for spelling.  He has a poor short term memory, and we were concerned about him going to Senior School with these problems. Alex started off a bit ‘anti’, but now he agrees that his writing is better and the improvement has been commented on by teachers.  We are so pleased he is getting professional help, and are especially pleased that he now see the benefit and is self-motivated. He now is now asking for help with his Maths too!
Mrs D Wilson
We brought him to the centre in Year 6 because he just had no idea about maths.  This year won the ‘Most Improved in Maths’ certificate for his year.  He also came top of his class in 2 out of 3 maths exams.  Coming to here is the best thing we ever did!

The 6-week Summer

English and Maths Tuition in the Summer (Portsmouth, Fareham & Havant)

Summer days are always welcome.  The sunshine and that extra Vitamin D always makes us feel more positive.  However, academically, the summer holidays can be detrimental.  It is a long time to not be engaged with learning.  The old adage “If you don’t use it, you lose it” holds true, not just for our physical skills but also for our intellectual skills.

One of the best ways parents can combat the “brain drain” and enable children to be ahead of their peers at the start of the Autumn term is to attend booster sessions over the summer holiday.  These involve two hours of English and Mathematics at a level that will help with a student’s confidence and enable them to improve in these core subjects.  We have three weeks available and you can book individual sessions at a time to suit you.

So, what are you waiting for?  Sign up by following this link:

The deadline for all entries is Sat 8th September, to be handed in or posted to I Love To Learn Education Centres. Alternatively, email tutors@ilovetolearn.co.uk

Competition Judging Criteria:

  • Originality of idea
  • Use of language
  • Imagination
  • Development of characters/plot

Justin’s Top Tips for Writing

  • Try and imagine a scene as your character would experience it. Showing the reader what the character sees/hears/tastes/smells/feels can be really powerful.
  • Think about how things would be different for your character in their situation/historical period. What would they wear or eat?  Would they go to school?  How would they get about?
  • Describing an everyday event from a different perspective can be really effective. A walk across a darkened room after the lamp has gone out can be an adventure in itself!
  • If you have a hero and a villain, make sure the villain comes alive – villains can often be the most deliciously interesting characters to the reader.

Many Children Fall Behind

‘Research shows as many as one in three children can fall behind as a result of a seven-week break from the classroom.’

Tom
Amazing progress

For most children, summer is a time to leave classes and homework behind. While summer is a holiday from school, it does not have to be a holiday from learning. The summer holiday is great for recharging your children’s batteries, but if they are not using the skills and knowledge that was learned in the classroom, they will find themselves struggling when school starts up again.

Skills and knowledge gained throughout the school year fade during the summer months. Research shows that loss of content retention begins within 24 to 48 hours of learning unless the new information is reinforced or applied immediately. That is why, during summer holidays, even the best students forget lessons they have learned during the school year. After a month without reinforcement, approximately 80 percent of what a student has recently learned can be lost.

Gain Confidence

For children who have struggled in school, summer is an invaluable opportunity to catch-up on key skills and feel more confident when they return to class. For students who do well, it is an opportunity to keep their enthusiasm for learning high.

If your child needs help with reading, writing, spelling or maths call Howard or Linda for a free assessment on 023 93 96 86 26 now.

Learning to Work Hard!

Great writing plan!

Learning does not stop when the summer starts.  From 21-25th August we were joined by lots of enthusiastic students for our summer school.  Some of the children did tuition in the morning and then went over to Priory School in the afternoons for sport; others just did tuition in the afternoons.

Here are some pictures we had taken of the morning students who worked really hard and had a lot of fun, as you can see.  They all completed a full 10 hours of learning to set themselves up for the new term.
