Escape from Culloden-Review by Adam Jones
Book Review of Justin Strain’s New Book ‘Escape from Culloden’
The book is about a boy (called Robbie) who escapes from war but loses his father and sets out to find him. Along the way he meets a girl, a dog, a traitor and of the course the enemy whom he has to escape from a few times and are after the same ship that is bringing money for Scotland. Along the way he loses his uncle who dies and his mum and sister who are forced to leave because of the enemies burning down homes. Can Robbie reunite his family? And can he get the money before the enemies?
I like the character Meg because she knows more than Robbie and is constantly calling him ‘soldier boy’ which I find quite funny and seems to be more lively than Robbie. I also like Hamish the dog because he is so loyal to Robbie ever since they first saw each other.
There are points in the story where you want to know what is going to happen next. I liked the bit near the end where they are walking along a wet path with a drop near the side and Robbie slips, he thinks he is going to die but Meg catches him. It is a real page turner. Overall I liked this book a lot.
